Studio Primrose

A little about Laura & Studio Primrose...
Hi! My name is Laura and I am very fortunate to been able to do what I love for the last 25 years...teach and work in the creative and decorative arts industry.

My unexpected creative journey began with a "tole painting" workshop I took with my mom in 1985. At that time, I had a full time corporate position and didn't believe I had any creative talents whatsoever. My only intention was to have some quality time with my mom.

Much to my surprise, I loved the workshop, and dove in with everything I had! And before I knew it, I was teaching at local shops. One thing led to another, and in 1992, encouraged and supported by family and friends, I opened my first store, Primrose Cottage, in Mission Viejo, CA. In addition to selling vintage style gifts and home decor, a small group of us taught a variety of painting and creative workshops.

And then again, in 2001, a new turn in my life led to a chapter of my life closing, and a new one opening. Through this, Studio Primrose began. My desire to remove old wallpaper and re-decorate my home had led me to stenciling and faux finishing. Faux finishing was just beginning to explode and I was quite fortunate to be mentored and trained by some of the best people and companies in the industry. This led to me painting and plastering specialty finishes in clients' homes and teaching workshops to both DIYers and professional faux finishers.

And then in 2011, time for another unexpected life turn...getting married to my soul mate...and then immediately moving to Mesa, AZ. Fast forward to 2013...Studio Primrose, a "furniture paint boutique and studio" opened in the Vintage Marketplace section of The Rustic Hutch, in Mesa, AZ. It has been such an awesome experience being a part of The Rustic Hutch and I have been so fortunate to have received such a warm welcome and response to my workshops from all of my new customers, co-workers, and friends.

A special I was writing this page, I was reminiscing and came across a lot of photos with my CA students. I just need to say a big "thank you!" to all of you! Without you, none of this would have happened. You all hold a special place in my heart and I miss you.

Studio Primrose - Our Passion to Inspire Creativity and Share Knowledge

As you begin browsing our workshop schedule, you may notice that our workshop offerings are very eclectic! As a teacher, one of my passions is to provide a creative environment where students have the opportunity to express their creative side...whether it be through participating in one of our DIY furniture painting workshops or a creative project-oriented workshop which could include painting, mosaic, collage, decoupage, stencilling, mixed-media art, soldered art, precious metal clay, jewelry-making and more. At Studio Primrose, we believe "knowledge is power". We also recognize that everyone learns differently and may be at a different place of knowledge. Therefore, we offer both free product demonstrations and more in depth, hands-on workshops. We also offer customized, individual workshops for both the serious homeowner or professional finisher.
It is our belief that only the finest products should be used for all projects. Therefore, we are excited to be affiliated with manufacturers who bring awesome furniture and cabinet painting products to the marketplace. Our philosophy is to educate our customers about the products available on the market today and then provide them with choices of color palettes, paints, textures, waxes, varnishes, etc. that fit their individual needs. Please refer to the Products section of our website to learn more about all of the outstanding products we sell. We are always searching for new products!
