About Studio Primrose

Laura Brewer has been teaching and working in the creative and decorative arts industry for over twenty years. Many students have been taking workshops with Laura since she opened her first store, Primrose Cottage, in 1992.  They know that Laura is dedicated to providing exceptional and thorough instruction that is fun and inspires her students’ creative energies to flow.

The last few years have been full of exciting changes... including a big move to Mesa, AZ!

In Fall 2011, after teaching both professional fauxfinishers and DIY'ers for over 20 years in the Orange County, CA area, Laura moved to Mesa, AZ. Her husband, Joe, had been transferred with Boeing to their Mesa site. Laura continued to commute back to CA to teach for the next three years.

In October 2012, Laura opened a "furniture paint" boutique within a great gift and vintage home decor store, The Rustic Hutch, in Mesa, AZ. When The Rustic Hutch expanded in January 2013, creating a wonderful space for Laura to open a studio and begin offering workshops.

As you begin browsing our workshop calendar, you may notice that our workshop offerings are very eclectic! One of Laura’s passions is to create an environment where students find and express their “inner artist”...whether it be through participating in one of our DIY furniture painting workshops or decorative arts workshops which include painting, mosaic, collage, decoupage, stencilling,  mixed-media art, soldered art, precious metal clay, jewelry-making and more. Laura is always looking for new ideas and projects to offer her students. Come join us for these workshops, have a lot of fun, and "Unleash your Inner Artist!"

Laura’s goal is to provide the techniques, nuances, tools and products needed for her students and customers to create gorgeous furniture and cabinet finishes for their home or to re-sell.

At Studio Primrose, we believe it is imperative that only the finest products should be used for all projects. Therefore, we are excited to be affiliated with manufacturers who bring awesome furniture and cabinet painting products to the marketplace.  Our philosophy is to educate our customers about the products available on the market today and then provide them with choices of color palettes, textures, waxes, varnishes, etc. that fit their individual needs. Therefore, we are proud to be retailers for Olde Century Colors, Heirloom Traditions, Debi's Design Diary DIY Paint, The American Paint Company, Final Coat Varnish, Modern Masters, and our own line of crackle finishes. As we often need a facelift for our countertops when re-painting our cabinets, we also offer workshops using Skimstone, a great concrete overlay for countertops. Come into The Rustic Hutch to see the counter Laura did for THe Rustic Hutch. Most all of the paint products we work with are both people and eco-friendly.

Furniture painting is so easy with American Paint Company Clay-Chalk paints. These chalk and clay based paints are such fun to work with and come in awesome colors! Minimal prep is required for most surfaces, and they are people and eco-friendly too.

Olde Century Simulated Milk Paints create gorgeous furniture and cabinet painted finishes. Laura has been working with these paints for over 20 years!
We are always searching for great tools and products that make the project easier while maintaining the high level of quality finishes that clients expect and deserve.
